Radiesse® Frequently Asked Questions
What is Radiesse filler? Radiesse filler is for the correction of facial lines and wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines. It can also be used to enhance the cheeks and rejuvenate the hands. Years of rigorous clinical studies prove that Radiesse filler provides long-lasting correction of smile lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. Radiesse filler is made of unique calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel that is injected into the skin through a simple, safe, and minimally invasive procedure.
How does Radiesse work? Radiesse filler is gently injected into the skin in small amounts with a very fine needle. Radiesse filler provides immediate restoration of volume and stimulates the body to produce new collagen creating long-lasting results.
Is Radiesse safe? In years of rigorous clinical testing and use by physicians in hundreds of thousands of patients worldwide, Radiesse has been shown to be safe and effective. In the FDA clinical studies, there were virtually no allergic reactions. As a result, no allergy testing is required prior to injection. There may be some normal injection-related side-effects such as bruising, discomfort, swelling, or redness that typically resolve on their own.
How is Radiesse treatment performed? Radiesse filler is injected into the skin through a simple, safe, quick, and minimally invasive outpatient procedure. Typically administered in a physician’s office with the use of a local anesthetic, Radiesse treatment requires little to no downtime, with most patients returning to normal activities almost immediately after treatment.
How soon can I expect results? How long will the results last? The results are immediate. Radiesse filler continues to deliver results as it stimulates your body to produce new collagen. Results may last up to a year in many patients, which may result in fewer office visits for retreatments. Since results may vary, be sure to discuss your expectations with your doctor.
Are there any side-effects? Normal, injection-related reactions such as mild irritation, edema, swelling, itching, bruising, discoloration, or tenderness at the injection site may occur. These conditions typically resolve themselves within one to three days.
Is Radiesse filler permanent? No. Treatment results are long-lasting, but not permanent. Over time, the tiny calcium-based microspheres gradually break down into calcium and phosphate ions, which are safely and naturally absorbed into your body, leaving your own newly produced collagen in their place.
