Laser-Assisted Liposuction

The LipoSculpture Center at Finesse is pleased to offer Smartlipo™ – the gold standard in laser-assisted liposuction. At Finesse, we use the latest Smartlipo Triplex™, a third generation system designed for laser body contouring and for optimal skin tightening. The revolutionary Smartlipo Triplex platform combines the benefits of the 1064nm, 1320nm, and 1440nm wavelengths. The addition of the 1440nm wavelength, which is 20 times more efficient in melting fat, is at the heart of the Triplex system. Smartlipo Triplex is ideal for treating localized deposits of unwanted fat and fat tissue irregularities, and for coagulating tissue leading to a skin tightening effect.

The laser causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising, and a quicker recovery time than conventional liposuction. Because general anesthesia is unnecessary, the procedure is very safe with only minimal side effects. Our center has historically been one of the busiest Smartlipo centers in the region. We are also a Boston-area Cynosure® preceptorship site providing education on the Smartlipo procedure to other physicians.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Laser-assisted Liposuction

How does Smartlipo Triplex work?

Smartlipo triplex is a minimally invasive surgical procedure. The procedure disrupts the fat cells through a thermal and photo-disruptive action – heating and shattering the fat cell membrane. The laser coagulates the underlying vessels due to the hemostatic properties of the laser, resulting in less bleeding, bruising, trauma as well as less down time. As an added benefit, the system also promotes tissue tightening through bulk thermal heating and tissue coagulation. The Smartlipo has been cleared by the FDA for laser-assisted lipolysis.

How many treatments will I need with Smartlipo?

For most patients, typically only one treatment is required. The session may last from 60-90 minutes for each area that is treated. Laser lipolysis is also an ideal choice for “touch ups” and revisions.

What body regions can be treated with Smartlipo?

Smartlipo is ideal for contouring the abdomen, flanks, thighs, saddlebags, arms, knees, back, bra bulge, and areas of loose or flabby skin.

What can I expect post-treatment?

After the anesthesia has worn off, you may feel the aches and pains that follow a vigorous workout. This is unlike in traditional liposuction where a patient feels as if they were run over by a truck. After the treatment, you will have some bruising and / or swelling. We recommend two days of rest following the procedure. You will wear a compression garment for two to three weeks depending on the area that was treated. You can begin exercising two weeks post procedure.

How quickly will I see results with Smartlipo?

Results can be seen immediately with continued improvement over the next six months.

Is the Smartlipo treatment long lasting?

Yes! The Smartlipo procedure destroys and removes the treated fat cells. Adults do not create new fat cells. When a person gains weight, that person’s fat cells simply expand. Should you gain weight, that fat will most likely be deposited in areas where the procedure was not performed.

Who is a good candidate for the Smartlipo procedure?

Ideal candidates are in good health, close to normal body weight and have realistic expectations for the results. If the person has areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, then that person is a candidate for laser-assisted lipolysis.

Who is not a candidate for Smartlipo?

Patients are not candidates for Smartlipo if they are pregnant or breast feeding, have insulin dependent diabetes; active or chronic liver disease or hepatitis; coronary artery disease; unstable hypertension; bleeding disorders; or are on Coumadin / Heparin. Those patients with immune related disorders such as HIV or who are allergic to Lidocaine are also not candidates.
