Bring Back Smooth, Youthful Skin with Botox

Botox in Waltham, MA

Whether you’re looking to prevent signs of aging or reduce the evidence of aging on your face and neck, Botox may be right for you. This cosmetic injection treatment helps reduce muscle movement, the most substantial cause of lines and wrinkles, to give you smoother skin and a rejuvenated glow.

Discover how Botox can work for you. Contact Finesse Cosmetic Surgery today to schedule your Botox consultation.

What Is Botox Cosmetic?

Botox is an injectable cosmetic treatment. The product serves many purposes but primarily works to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the face and neck.

Botox injections can be administered in several areas, including:

  • Jaw
  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Forehead
  • Around the lips
  • Bunny lines (on the nose)
  • Crow’s feet (around the eyes)
  • Frown lines (between the eyebrows)

Along with treating aesthetic concerns, Botox also works exceptionally well at treating certain medical conditions like migraines and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

Botox is one of the most popular and requested cosmetic treatments for a reason. Patients can enjoy a refreshed, rejuvenated appearance with no need for surgery.

How Does Botox Treat Signs of Aging?

Excessive muscle movement is one of the most significant contributors to lines and creases on the skin. Botox works to slow or even stop muscles from contracting, helping keep skin taut and smooth.

The main ingredient in Botox is botulinum toxin A, a neurotoxin that helps weaken muscle movement. This toxin is safe when administered in small doses by a qualified professional.

Muscle movement occurs due to nerve signals telling muscles to move. When injected, Botox works to block these signals, causing the muscles to weaken and either slow down considerably or stop moving altogether, depending on dosage and desired results.

Minimized muscle movement helps keep signs of aging, including wrinkles and creases, at bay.

The Botox Treatment

On the day of your Botox appointment, we’ll begin by mapping out the area where you’ll receive treatment. We’ll cleanse the area and apply topical numbing cream for maximum comfort.

Next, we’ll gently inject small doses of Botox throughout the treatment area. You can sit back and relax during your treatment, which typically lasts 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of injections we make.

After your treatment is complete, you can rest for a few minutes before you’re free to leave and return to your daily activities.

Advantages of Botox Injections

There are many reasons why patients enjoy getting Botox. Some of the most substantial advantages of this treatment include:

  • Natural-looking results
  • Reduced signs of aging
  • Smoother, tighter-looking skin
  • Minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure

Botox can give you the skin refresh you’ve been seeking with no fuss and no downtime.

Botox — Frequently Asked Questions

Patients often have questions about Botox injections, so we’ve answered some of the most common ones below. If you have additional questions, we’d be happy to discuss them with you during your consultation.

Is There Any Downtime After Botox?

After Botox, there’s no real downtime. We do ask you not to rub the area or lie down for at least four hours after your appointment. You should also take a break from exercise and any strenuous activity for at least 24 hours.

Otherwise, you can return to normal activity after treatment. In fact, many patients come in the middle of the workday and return to work right after their appointments.

When Can I Expect to See a Difference in My Appearance?

Because of the way Botox works, you likely won’t see a drastic difference right after you receive your injections. Botox takes some time to work, so you can expect to progressively notice less and less muscle movement in the days after your appointment. Final results often take one to two weeks.

How Long Does Botox Last?

Every patient reacts to Botox differently. In general, Botox lasts three to four months. For some patients, it can last a little longer, from four to six months.

Often, the more you get Botox, the better your muscles react to it, with results lasting a bit longer every time.

How Often Can I Get Botox Injections?

When you begin to notice more significant movement in the area treated with Botox, you can schedule your next appointment. Most patients wait three to six months between appointments, depending on how long the product lasts.

Will I Still Be Able to Make Facial Expressions After Botox?

Absolutely. We understand the thought of stopping muscles from moving seems intimidating, but we only use a small enough dose of the product to limit muscle movement without giving you a “frozen” look.

You’ll still be able to express yourself, just without the added lines and wrinkles.

Can I Combine Botox with Other Injectables?

Yes. It’s common to combine Botox with dermal fillers. The two work well together to combat signs of aging.

Botox prevents muscle movement, putting a stop to the formation and deepening of lines and creases. Filler works to plump these areas, further contributing to smoother skin.

During your consultation, we can recommend the best filler product to complement your Botox treatment.

Is There a Particular Age When I Can Start Getting Botox?

Adult patients of all ages get Botox Cosmetic. Patients in their 20s typically begin getting Botox as a preventive treatment to avoid having deep-set creases and lines around the face and neck in the future. More mature patients usually use Botox to improve the look of existing lines and wrinkles.

Get Rid of Stubborn Fat and Tighten Skin with Smart Lipo

Fat and Tighten Skin

It’s common to reach a plateau in your diet and fitness journey. Despite your effort, your body may still retain areas of fat deposits that you just can’t eliminate on your own. Smart lipo can help you get rid of stubborn, lingering fat while also giving you stronger, smoother skin in the process.

If you’re interested in discovering how smart lipo can help you reach your goals, contact Finesse Cosmetic Surgery in Waltham, MA, to schedule a consultation.

What Is Smart Lipo?

Smart lipo is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for fat reduction. It provides a way to remove fat in various parts of the body while tightening the skin for improved body contours.

Smart liposuction is also referred to as “laser lipo” because it uses laser technology. The laser serves multiple purposes, including breaking up fat cells, but more significantly, the laser helps tighten the skin as it removes fat. This type of liposuction helps patients feel less discomfort and heal quicker.

Smart lipo can tackle fat in several parts of the body, including:

  • Neck
  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Back
  • Knees
  • Flanks
  • Thighs
  • Abdomen

Because of its skin-tightening benefits, smart lipo can be effective on any area that has loose skin. Along with fat removal, many patients opt for smart lipo for cellulite reduction and a better overall skin appearance.

Smart Lipo vs. Traditional Lipo — What’s the Difference?

One of the most important questions patients ask is how smart lipo compares to traditional lipo. While smart lipo is like regular lipo in many ways, certain features set it apart entirely.

Traditional liposuction is straightforward. A cannula is inserted into the target area and moved back and forth to break up the fat and remove it. Smart lipo works in the same manner; however, because of the laser, we don’t have to use as much manual labor to remove the fat. The laser does most of the work.

For this reason, patients who undergo smart lipo usually experience less discomfort and faster recovery.

Regular lipo also only removes fat. It does nothing for the skin, so it is not uncommon for patients to experience some skin laxity afterward, depending on their body and skin type. Smart lipo works to tighten skin while removing fat, allowing patients to experience smoother, stronger skin.

Finally, the cannula used for laser lipo is smaller than that used for traditional lipo. This means smaller incisions and quicker healing.

While regular liposuction offers many great benefits, smart lipo goes a step above.

Benefits of Smart Lipo

Once patients learn the advantages of smart lipo, it’s difficult not to choose this solution. Some of the most outstanding benefits of laser liposuction include:

  • Quick procedure
  • Minimal downtime
  • Reduction of cellulite
  • Tighter, rejuvenated skin
  • Reduction of stubborn fat
  • Natural, long-lasting results
  • Option to have the procedure performed on multiple areas at once

If you’re excited to discover how smart lipo can benefit you and help you reach your goals, we’d love to schedule a consultation with you to discuss it.

The Smart Lipo Procedure

On the day of your procedure, you will receive anesthesia so you stay comfortable during your procedure.

We’ll start your laser liposuction procedure by creating tiny incisions and inserting the cannula. We’ll carefully fan the cannula in back-and-forth motions as the laser breaks up fat cells and the fat is removed through the cannula.

Once we’ve completed your treatment, we’ll apply surgical dressings and put you in a compression garment.

Because the smart lipo procedure is outpatient, you’ll be able to return home the same day to begin your recovery.

Smart Lipo: Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re considering smart lipo, you’ll likely have many questions. We’ve answered some of the questions our patients commonly ask below.

What Is Downtime Like After Smart Lipo?

Patients who choose smart lipo over traditional liposuction usually experience less downtime because of the way the procedure is performed.

You’ll wear your compression garment for two to three weeks after surgery to help the area(s) heal. We typically recommend two or three days of total rest after your procedure, and you should avoid exercise or strenuous activities for at least two weeks.

When Can I Expect to See Results?

You’ll likely see a difference immediately after your procedure. However, you need to allow your body some time to rest and heal before seeing final results, which regularly take a few weeks to appear.

Does the Fat Come Back After Getting Laser Lipo?

No. Laser liposuction completely removes fat cells. While many of the body’s cells regenerate, fat cells do not. This means that once fat cells in an area are removed, they do not come back.

It is important to note, however, that remaining fat cells can expand as a result of weight gain. Therefore, to enjoy your results longer, it’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including following a good diet and getting regular exercise.

How Can I Determine Whether Smart Lipo Is for Me?

Begin by scheduling a consultation with us. During your initial appointment, we’ll examine your area of concern, ask questions, and learn about your desired outcome. Then, we can determine whether smart lipo is right for you and create a personalized treatment plan to produce optimal results.

How Much Weight Can You Lose From an Abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty, sometimes referred to as a tummy tuck, is one of the most popular body contouring procedures in the world. At Finesse Cosmetic Surgery in Waltham, MA, this procedure is commonly sought to help mothers restore their prenatal bodies. It generally involves removing any present excess skin, tightening loose skin and muscle tissue, and excising a small amount of local fat. If you think this could benefit you, read on to learn more.

How Much Weight Can You Lose From an Abdominoplasty?

You can expect to lose between three and five pounds following abdominoplasty. The scope of the procedure is one of the most significant factors affecting how much weight loss you can expect after surgery. If you get a mini tuck, only the lower abdomen is affected. In such cases, you can generally expect to lose three pounds of skin and fat.

A full tummy tuck, though, removes excess skin and fat from the lower and upper abdomen. In such cases, it is reasonable to expect to lose four pounds of skin and fat. You can generally expect to lose five pounds of skin and fat if you get an extended tuck. Like a full tuck, this procedure removes excess tissue from the upper and lower abdomen. However, the scope of this procedure also involves removing excess tissue from the lower back and hips.

What If I Have a Lot of Fat to Lose?

To reiterate, abdominoplasty only involves excising a little bit of fat from the abdominal region. It is not a fat removal procedure, and it is not effective for the removal of a lot of fat. Liposuction, on the other hand, is a fat-removal procedure. Otherwise known as lipo, this procedure is approved by the FDA for the removal of up to 11 pounds of fat in a single session. It can reasonably be expected that you can lose around five extra pounds of fat if you get a tuck and lipo.

That said, depending on how much excess abdominal fat you have, you may only lose roughly five additional pounds from liposuction on your stomach. Liposuction can only remove roughly a quarter of subcutaneous abdominal fat. Furthermore, you should be aware that if you have a very large amount of excess abdominal fat, a single lipo session may not be effective for you. Losing weight through diet and exercise prior to surgery may be necessary.

Can I Lose Weight After a Tummy Tuck?

Yes, you can absolutely lose weight after a tummy tuck! In fact, having excess abdominal skin removed can make your exercise routine a lot easier. For instance, excess abdominal skin can keep people from getting in the pool for a water aerobics class or a long swim. As another example, it can get in the way of cycling or running comfortably. This discourages aerobic exercise, an important component of health and safe, fast weight loss.

A tummy tuck can also make weight loss easier by easing back pain caused by poor posture. There are many potential causes of poor posture, and one of them is weak abdominal muscles. In addition to tightening loose skin tissue, a full tummy tuck can tighten loose abdominal muscles and repair damage to the abdominal muscles caused by ventral hernias, pregnancy, or childbirth.

How Soon After Surgery Can I Start Losing Weight?

If you are currently on a weight loss journey, you may want to put it on hold for a month or two while you recover from your tummy tuck. During the first six to eight weeks post-op, don’t bend over at your waist, lift anything weighing more than roughly 10 pounds, or exert yourself too much. If you lose weight during the first couple of months post-op, your caloric deficit will need to be accomplished through eating less and exercising gently.

Once your skin is sufficiently healed from surgery, it will be safe for you to resume lifting weights and getting in vigorous cardio sessions. Be advised that if you choose to cut calories from your diet during your recovery, it is essential that you get enough vitamins, minerals, water, and protein. These are key ingredients that your skin needs an abundant supply of to produce and fuel collagen. Collagen is an essential protein that facilitates healing.

What Can I Expect During My Abdominoplasty Recovery?

Immediately After Surgery

Once your tummy tuck is over, we will put drainage tubes in your incisions to protect against fluid building up and wrap your abdomen in a surgical dressing. We will advise you on how to remove the dressing and when. For the most part, it should be kept in place to keep your incisions dry and clean. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. The better you care for yourself after surgery, the shorter your recovery period will be.

Shortly After Surgery

In addition to advising you on how to care for your incisions, we will advise you on everything else you will need to do to care for yourself after surgery. Again, you will have an opportunity to ask for clarification if necessary. Then, you will be sent home to recover. This is an outpatient procedure, meaning you will not need to stay overnight in a hospital.

Note that you will not be able to drive yourself home after your procedure. Regardless of whether you receive local or general anesthesia, it will not be safe for you to operate such heavy machinery as automobiles for 24 hours. Make sure you arrange for someone to drive you home following your procedure. Once you’re home, you should be prepared to dedicate at least two weeks to rest. Don’t clean, cook, wake up early to dress your kids for school, or run errands.

Six Weeks After Surgery

Six weeks after surgery, it will be okay for you to bathe. During the first 48 hours following surgery, you will not be able to shower or bathe. Two days after surgery, it will be safe for you to take a lukewarm or cool shower on the softest possible showerhead setting. From two to 42 days post-op, you should use a fragrance-free body wash and air dry or pat yourself dry very gently after your shower. Also, it is a good idea to shower as quickly as possible.

Eight Weeks After Surgery

Two months following your tummy tuck, you will be able to resume your usual routine. Sometimes, people are sufficiently healed after six weeks. Other times, people are sufficiently healed after eight weeks. You can generally expect follow-up appointments to occur one, two, and six weeks following surgery. We will advise you on whether you can safely resume vigorous exercise at your six-week appointment.

How Can I Shorten My Recovery Period?

Get More Quality Sleep

Getting more quality sleep can go a long way in helping you recover from your tummy tuck. Your skin will work around the clock to heal the incision or incisions made during surgery. However, its work is most efficient when you are in the rapid eye movement stage of the sleep cycle. To reach this stage, you first need to pass through the stages preceding it. If you wake up and subsequently fall back asleep, you will start over in the first sleep cycle stage.

Exercise Gently

In addition to getting lots of quality sleep, you can help speed up your recovery process by getting 30 minutes of gentle aerobic exercise daily. Just make sure that you listen very carefully to your body. Don’t push yourself too hard. If you feel lightheaded, dizzy, or fatigued, sit down and sip on a cool glass of water.

Don’t Smoke

Avoiding tobacco consumption, including secondhand smoke, will also help you heal faster after surgery. Nicotine consumption impedes the flow of oxygen and nutrients throughout your body.

Discover How to Achieve Your Ideal Figure Today

After a tummy tuck, you can expect to see a reduction on the scale of three to five pounds. Individual experiences vary based on the amount of excess skin present and the scope of the procedure. If you have quite a bit of excess abdominal fat, you may be able to lose up to 11 additional pounds by getting liposuction at the same time as your tummy tuck. Contact us today at Finesse Cosmetic Surgery in Waltham, MA to find out how you can achieve your goals.

Does Botox Work Immediately?

Of the many age-defying skincare treatments available today, Botox has earned its reputation as one of the most effective ones at treating a variety of different cosmetic conditions. Although it’s mainly known for its ability to reduce lines and wrinkles, it offers skin rejuvenating properties as well. Here at Finesse Cosmetic Laser and Lipo in Waltham, MA, we’ve used this therapy to treat everything from fine lines to rough skin with great success.

This treatment works by relaxing facial muscles, though this can take a bit of time, depending on different factors. However, once the effects become noticeable, this can lead to an instant boost in self-confidence as the skin becomes smoother and imperfections disappear. So f you’re wondering how this treatment works and how quickly you can expect to see the results, here’s a quick guide to help explain everything.

Does Botox Work Immediately?

While it doesn’t normally work immediately, you should start noticing the first benefits of this treatment within a few weeks after your first therapy session. This is when the muscles become fully relaxed and the skin starts responding. Once this happens, lines typically become less noticeable, wrinkles begin to diminish, and the skin starts to look more vibrant and softer in texture.

These results can become even more obvious in the weeks afterward because Botox can stimulate collagen production, which can continue to smoothen the skin. During this time, you should continue to take care of your skin to maintain the results as long as possible.

How Does This Therapy Work?

Botox therapy works by blocking neurotransmitters that play a role in muscle contractions. After this medication has been injected into a muscle beneath the skin, the muscle then relaxes, while the skin, which has been affected over time by tense muscle contractions, begins to do the same. At the same time, collagen production begins to increase within the skin, which can enhance its effects even more.

All of this leads to reinvigorated skin that has more bounce to it and a reduction in both lines and wrinkles. Although the effects are temporary, repeat treatments are normally carried out to maintain results, and this can often have a cumulative effect where more and more improvements and longer-lasting effects are noticed over time.

How Long Will the Results Last?

While results can vary, you can generally expect the effects to last at least three to four months, at which point you may start to notice lines and wrinkles returning. The collagen-boosting effect that leads to softer skin can often remain much longer, but this too will gradually wane over time. To prolong the effects as long as possible, it’s therefore important to avoid things that can affect your skin.

Smoking, drinking alcohol, chronic stress, sun damage, and a lack of proper vitamins or nutrients can all have a negative effect on your skin and the results of this treatment. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help to keep your skin vibrant and can help the muscles learn how to relax more naturally over time.

How Often Can I Receive Treatments?

How frequently you return for more treatments is up to you, though you shouldn’t need any additional injections for at least three to four months. It’s entirely your choice if you’d prefer to return every three to four months for regularly scheduled appointments or if you’d rather only come back for touchups on an as-needed basis. Both approaches can be beneficial, depending on your needs, and work in the following ways:

As-Needed Touchups

When you opt to schedule appointments only when you have new lines and wrinkles or when the effects have fully worn off, this is a strictly corrective approach, and it can be more convenient for those who have busy schedules. This approach is more suitable for patients who are not trying to prevent the signs of aging and are mainly concerned with treating them once they have already appeared.

Regular Appointments

If you schedule regular appointments with us every three to four months, this is a preventative way of tackling cosmetic issues before they even appear. This approach can be useful for those who prefer to maintain their revitalized look year-round, without any periods where others may notice lines and wrinkles returning. One major benefit of taking a preventative approach is that the time frame between appointments can often become extended over time as the muscles adapt and respond more efficiently.

What Is the Treatment Process Like?

Consultation

After scheduling with us, there will be a brief consultation where we’ll discuss your reasons for wanting this therapy and which areas of the face you’d like treated. If you’re taking any medications, have any ongoing health issues, or have had surgeries in the past, we’ll want to know about these as well.

If you have any questions, this will also be the perfect time to ask them. To determine how much Botox we’ll need to use, we’ll conduct a quick exam of your facial muscles and skin.

Treatment

Most of our patients find the treatment process itself to be a quick and easy one. We’ll start by sanitizing any areas where injections will be made, so it may be best to remove makeup before your appointment or we can remove it during your session. Next, we’ll use a syringe to extract only a tiny amount of Botox medication from a vial, which we’ll carefully inject into the target areas while ensuring that you’re comfortable. The injections usually take no longer than 15 to 20 minutes, and there’s no downtime afterward.

What Issues Can Be Treated with Botox?

This therapy can be effective for many different types of cosmetic conditions, especially those associated with facial expressions and aging. Some of the issues that we regularly treat and have had great success with include:

Crow’s Feet

One of the more common types of lines found on the face are crow’s feet, which are those that extend horizontally outward from the outer corner areas of both eyes. Many of our patients become more confident at smiling again once lines and wrinkles in this area become less visible.

Forehead Lines

We often have patients in their late 30s or older ages who come in for treatment of forehead lines, which are the long, horizontal lines and the associated wrinkles that span across the center of the forehead. Despite how large these particular lines can be, they’re often very easy to treat and typically respond well to regular touch-ups.

Frown Lines

Just above the nose are two muscles, the procerus and corrugator muscles, which are responsible for the vertical lines found between the eyebrows that most people know as “frown lines.” Although these lines are associated with frowning, they can appear with many other facial expressions, but luckily, they can also be effectively treated in most instances.

Lipstick Lines

Lines often develop just above the upper lip as well, and normally in a vertical pattern where they run parallel to each other. These lines, which are called lipstick lines, typically appear when making mouth movements, such as puckering. However, they can also become visible at all times when a person reaches their 40s, 50s, or 60s.

Bunny Lines

Despite their cute name, bunny lines can cause many people to feel self-conscious when they first appear, as they occur in one of the more obvious areas of the face – directly on the nose. Most adults have them, even at younger ages, but these lines can become deeper and more noticeable at any time after the age of 30.

Other Issues

While the wrinkles and lines already mentioned are some of the more commonly treated ones, there are still many more that can respond well to this therapy. For this reason, we’ll want to examine any cosmetic issues you have to determine if this treatment may be effective or not.

Start Your Therapy Today

Botox therapy is safe and versatile and can lead to effective, long-lasting results that start within two weeks after your first treatment session. To schedule an appointment so we can see if this treatment is right for you, contact us today at Finesse Cosmetic Laser and Lipo in Waltham, MA, and get ready to feel great about your skin again.

How Long Is Recovery After Smart Lipo?

Losing unwanted fat in some areas of the body can be challenging, particularly because some types of fat are more resistant to your weight-loss efforts than others. Because it’s much easier to burn fat used for fuel than it is to burn fat that is saved for energy storage, it can be challenging to reach your goals without using an aesthetic treatment. Learn more about how Smart Lipo at Finesse Cosmetic Laser and Lipo in Waltham, MA can help you achieve your body goals.

How Long Is Recovery After Smart Lipo?

The overall recovery time after Smart Lipo is about four weeks. Your immediate recovery will be one to two days, after which you will usually be able to go back to work and resume light activities.

Throughout your entire recovery period, you will not be able to engage in any strenuous activity, such as intense exercise, straining movements, lifting, or some household chores. You will need to prepare meals and a comfortable area of your house for your recovery.

How Long Should You Wear Compression Garments?

You will be directed to wear compression garments for at least four weeks. Wearing compression garments after a liposuction treatment is essential, as this will ensure your body heals in the desired shape.

Compression garments also help the lymphatic system process fat more quickly. This is particularly important for an advanced procedure such as this one, which does not include any drainage dressings after the treatment is complete.

Will You Have Any Prescriptions?

You may have some prescriptions to take after your procedure. For example, it’s very common to be prescribed antibiotics when you’re recovering from an invasive aesthetic procedure. This is because antibiotics will ensure you can have a strong immune system throughout your recovery time. Usually, you take antibiotics for seven to 10 days.

You may have other prescriptions to manage discomfort after your treatment. However, over-the-counter pain medication should be adequate for most people.

Do You Need To Massage the Treated Area?

One of the unique things about your recovery from the Smart Lipo procedure is that you will need to massage the treated area lightly a few times a day to encourage better results. You will be able to start massaging the treatment area 10 to 12 days after your procedure. The light massage should not cause any discomfort. Your surgeon will give you further instructions on how to correctly perform the massage.

What Else Do You Need To Know About This Procedure?

Smart Lipo is an advanced alternative treatment to traditional liposuction that will effectively remove small areas of fat from the body. This is a laser-assisted treatment that works by inserting a cannula into the body, which will emit laser energy to melt unwanted fat. This is followed by suction to remove fat from the desired areas of the body.

This procedure is ideal for targeting small pockets of fat and sculpting the body. Unlike traditional liposuction, this procedure does not remove a large amount of fat from the body, and it cannot be used to achieve weight loss goals.

Preparation Guidelines

Before your procedure, you’ll need to stop smoking for at least four to six weeks, as this will give your body a better advantage to heal from the procedure. Tobacco can inhibit many healing processes and make it more difficult to burn unwanted fat, so by discontinuing tobacco products, your results will develop as desired.

Other preparation guidelines can include temporarily stopping the use of blood-thinning medications or supplements that have blood-thinning side effects. Be sure to list all of the medications and supplements you are taking when you are having a consultation with your surgeon. You may have additional preparation guidelines to follow.

Why Is Smart Lipo Better Than Traditional Liposuction?

One of the biggest benefits of using Smart Lipo for your body sculpting goals is the fact that your recovery period is much shorter compared to the recovery period for traditional liposuction. This means it’s easier and more convenient for busy people to work the body sculpting procedure into their schedules. Other benefits of this advanced fat-removal technique include:

Less Traumatic

This advanced procedure is far less traumatic for the body than traditional liposuction. The use of a laser to melt targeted pockets of unwanted fat ultimately means that fat can be removed more effectively from your body. Because the incisions for this treatment are much smaller, the body does not suffer as much tissue damage when compared to traditional liposuction. This is also why the recovery period is so much shorter.

Tightens Skin

One major benefit of this smart fat removal procedure is the fact that it will tighten skin. This is a byproduct of the laser technology used during the procedure. Because laser energy can stimulate blood flow, it can also increase collagen production in the skin. The result is that collagen production will be stimulated even as fat is removed from the body, which can produce a tight, natural-looking result.

Smooth Results

One of the risks of traditional liposuction is results that do not appear perfectly smooth. This is because traditional liposuction removes chunks of unwanted fat. With this advanced treatment, on the other hand, fat is liquefied before it is removed and the overall result is much more smooth. Ultimately, this is another reason why this liposuction treatment will produce natural-looking results.

Local Anesthesia

Many people also prefer this treatment over traditional liposuction because it uses local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. Broadly speaking, general anesthesia is more high-risk since it can increase the risk of respiratory concerns. However, local anesthesia allows the patient to remain awake during the laser-assisted liposuction procedure and carries fewer risks. Local anesthesia is also much easier to recover from.

Who are Good Candidates for This Procedure?

Candidates for this procedure include women and men who have moderate body sculpting goals. This treatment is not intended to help with significant weight loss, but it can trim away unwanted layers of fat so you can reach your final aesthetic goals.

For any invasive procedure, it’s imperative that patients are in good general health, as this will significantly reduce the risk of infection post-surgery. You will need to submit bloodwork and other exams to verify that you are healthy enough for the procedure. You will also need to reschedule your procedure if you have any type of infection, such as a cold, flu, fever blister, or other illness. Other indications you may be a good candidate include:

You Have Lost Significant Weight

If you have lost significant weight as the result of a weight loss journey, then you may be a candidate for a treatment to remove small pockets of unwanted fat. When you have lost your goal amount of weight, a treatment such as this one can remove the final layers of fat and tighten your skin to sculpt your body shape.

You Have Stubborn Pockets of Fat

If you have stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to dieting and exercise, then this treatment could be right for you. Stubborn pockets of fat are more likely to develop on the middle section, underarms, and inner thighs. Not only are these areas difficult to tone, but the fat in these areas is used for fuel storage and is more difficult to burn off.

You Aren’t Seeing Results From Exercise

If you want to achieve a certain body shape but you aren’t seeing the results you want from exercise, a treatment such as this one could be helpful. This liposuction technique can be used around major muscle groups to shape and tone the body.

You Are Already Within a Healthy Weight Range

Finally, candidates who are ideal for this treatment are those who are already within a healthy weight range. Your BMI is a good barometer to determine a healthy weight for your gender and height. If you are within this range and you are relatively happy with your body shape, this liposuction technique can be the final step for achieving your ideal body.

Finesse Your Body Shape With Smart Liposuction

Losing those last few layers of stubborn body fat can be hard with traditional diet and exercise. Luckily, a procedure such as laser-assisted liposuction can help you achieve all of your body goals. If you think this treatment is an ideal option to sculpt your body, contact Finesse Cosmetic Laser and Lipo in Waltham, MA to schedule a consultation.

Who Is a Good Candidate for VelaShape?

VelaShape

Cellulite and excessive fat on some areas of the body are extremely common concerns for many people. If this is something you’re struggling with, you may be wondering what you can do. At Finesse Cosmetic Surgery in Waltham, MA, our VelaShape treatments can help you feel more confident in your skin.

Who Is a Good Candidate for VelaShape?

It’s normal to have some parts of the body that make us self-conscious. You may have some cellulite or possibly some areas on your body that you wish were a bit tighter and smoother. If this sounds like your situation, you may want to consider getting VelaShape.

This thermal treatment is best for people who have an overall healthy lifestyle, are at a stable and healthy weight, are not currently experiencing any skin conditions, and would like to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

What Is Cellulite?

Most people have cellulite somewhere on their bodies. It is a completely harmless skin condition that causes the skin to appear slightly lumpy or dimpled. You’ll most commonly find it on areas of the body like the thighs, buttocks, hips, and abdomen.

This dimpling is caused by fat cells underneath your skin. Many people try to reduce the appearance of cellulite on their own through dieting and exercise along with other healthy lifestyle changes. Most people see varying degrees of success doing this. If you are making these changes and still seeing cellulite that makes you unhappy with your appearance, it may be time to try VelaShape.

What Is VelaShape?

This is a non-invasive FDA-approved body contouring treatment that is used to firm up the skin and reduce the appearance of issues like cellulite. It can also be used for circumferential reduction of the thighs and abdomen to help you look leaner.

When this treatment is applied to your desired areas, four different modalities are used to help you get your skin back to the appearance that you like. This is unlike most other treatments which will usually only use one modality, making this treatment incredibly effective.

How Does It Work?

An applicator is used to apply the treatment to the desired parts of your body. During treatment, a combination of infrared light, bipolar radiofrequency energy, massaging, and gentle suction is applied to your skin to get you the results you want.

The infrared light and radiofrequency energy heat your skin, encouraging it to tighten and firm up by shrinking the fat cells under your skin. The heat will also encourage your body’s production of collagen and elastin, proteins that give your skin its structure. The suction pulls your skin closer to your body while the massaging relaxes the stiff fibrous bands that cause the dimpled appearance of cellulite.

What Will Getting Treatment Be Like?

How to Prepare

Before you get your treatment, there are a few things you should know. Before your appointment, we’ll hold a consultation with you to discuss what your specific goals are and ensure that this is the right treatment for you. We’ll also provide you with instructions on how you should get ready for your treatment.

There is very little that you’ll need to do to prepare, so don’t worry about a long to-do list. All you’ll need to do is stop taking medications that could thin your blood and encourage bruising around two weeks before your treatment.

Your Treatment

This non-invasive treatment is fast, easy, and pain-free. There is no anesthetic required. You’ll lie down on a table while we use a handheld device to apply the treatment to your desired areas. Throughout the treatment, you will feel a massaging sensation as well as heat.

If the treatment gets too hot to the point where it’s uncomfortable, let us know. You should not be feeling any pain or discomfort. After your treatment, you may feel like you’ve had a deep-tissue massage. Your treatment should take anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes, and you can leave the clinic as soon as it’s done.

Recovery

Because this treatment is non-invasive, you can return to your regular life as soon as you leave the clinic. There is no downtime required. Your skin may be slightly red where you’ve received the treatment which is normal and will go away on its own usually after a few hours.

Your skin will be more sensitive during this time, so you’ll need to be mindful about avoiding direct sunlight. Make sure you apply sunscreen when you do go outside. Your sunscreen should have at least 30 SPF.

When Will I See the VelaShape Results?

The results from your treatment may not be immediate, but you can trust that they will be effective. You should start to see the results you’ve been looking for after about three sessions. However, most patients need around four to six sessions total before they see the full results of their treatment.

The total number of sessions that you’ll need will largely depend on how your skin reacts to the treatment as well as how severe your cellulite is.

How Far Apart Will the Sessions Be?

For treatment to be effective, you need to give your body the time it needs to turn over the treated cells and produce more collagen and elastin. For best results, you should space your treatments about a week apart.

When you visit our clinic, we’ll be able to consider your skin type and give you a better idea of how many sessions you may actually need.

Are Results Permanent?

Over time, the results that you get from your treatment are going to fade. This is natural and due to factors like aging, fluctuations in your hormones, and genetics. For this reason, we may recommend that you get maintenance treatments after your initial appointments.

These maintenance treatments can be spaced much further apart than your initial treatments. Depending on your skin, we may suggest that you come back for treatment about two to four times a year to help you maintain your results.

What Are the Benefits?

It’s Non-Invasive

If you have unwanted fat on your body or you don’t like the way cellulite is making you look, there are lots of options out there. Some of the most effective is surgical procedures. However, these procedures can be highly invasive, and you may not be comfortable with them.

This is a fantastic alternative to more invasive treatments. Recovery will be fast and easy, and there’s no downtime that you need to worry about. It’s also pain-free, which is a huge benefit.

It’s Safe

Because it’s non-invasive, this treatment is safe for almost anyone to get. It’s approved by the FDA for the treatment of cellulite and fat reduction, and you don’t need to worry about side effects associated with treatment options like surgery.

There is also no anesthetic required. If you are looking for an effective way to reduce the appearance of cellulite but you have been sensitive to anesthetics in the past, this treatment could be the perfect option for you.

Treatment Is Fast

You have a busy life with important things to do. So it makes sense that you’d want to avoid any treatments that could take a long time. You’ll be able to do exactly that when you visit our clinic for this treatment.

As we mentioned, most treatments will take somewhere between 20 to 45 minutes to complete. The exact amount of time depends on the size of the area being treated and whether you’re targeting more than one area of your body. As soon as treatment is done, you can leave.

You’ll Feel More Confident

Cellulite and excessive fat on the body are common, and almost everyone has at least one of these issues somewhere on their body. But just because it’s common, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t affect you negatively.

If you’re not happy with the way your cellulite makes you look and feel, then we are here for you. As soon as your results start appearing, you’ll feel much better wearing the clothes that you’ve always wished you could and doing the activities you’ve been avoiding because people may notice your cellulite.

How Much Fat Can You Lose With CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting

After spending countless hours exercising and calculating calories to reduce intake, it can be pretty frustrating to not be able to reach your target weight or body goals. Fortunately, with treatments such as CoolSculpting at Finesse Cosmetic Laser and Lipo in Waltham, MA, you can easily get rid of those last few unwanted pounds of fat.

How Much Fat Can You Lose With CoolSculpting?

The biggest benefit of CoolSculpting is that you can reduce unwanted fat on targeted areas of the body by 25%. With consecutive treatments, you can target pockets of stubborn fat to produce even greater results. Being able to reduce unwanted fat by 25% in multiple areas of your body can produce significant results.

How Many Pounds Does That Equal?

When you get down to the math of it, reducing 25% of fat on an area of your body where you have at least 10 pounds of unwanted fat can mean getting rid of a few pounds. If you treat multiple areas of the body, you can freeze several pounds of body fat away. Many people can lose 10 or more pounds when using this fat reduction treatment on multiple areas of the body.

How Many Clothing Sizes Does That Equal?

Sometimes, measuring your body weight isn’t the best way to assess your fat reduction or fitness. If you are exercising to build muscle, muscle mass may be replacing body fat on your body, which can sometimes make it seem like you’re gaining weight even if you’re not. For this reason, many nutrition experts and exercise coaches recommend measuring your fitness based on clothing sizes instead of trusting the scale.

When you use a body contouring treatment such as CoolSculpting, you can usually reduce your clothing size by one to two pant sizes, or sometimes more depending on which areas of your body you are treating. For example, many people focus on the waist, hips, and thighs, so greatly reducing body fat in this area can slim down your silhouette significantly.

What Is Treatment Like?

Usually, your treatment sessions will take about an hour. This treatment will use several applicators to freeze fat away. For areas of your body that have pinchable fat, such as the stomach, applicators will literally pinch fat in the treatment area to eliminate a greater number of fat cells.

Although this fat reduction treatment will involve freezing fat cells away, the treatment itself is very comfortable. Your skin will not be at risk with this treatment, since fat cells are more sensitive to cold temperatures than skin cells.

Preparation

Before any of your treatment sessions, you will need to avoid medications and supplements such as aspirin, fish oil, and vitamin E for at least three days. You should also avoid direct contact with the sun or tanning beds since this can potentially cause skin irritation. If you are shaving any area you plan to treat, it’s best to shave at least 48 hours in advance.

Aftercare

After your treatment, the best thing you can do is take it easy for 24 to 48 hours. While you can go back to work, you will want to avoid exercising and other strenuous activities. Additionally, you may want to avoid steam and hot water that can undermine your desired results.

Results

It will usually take several weeks for you to notice your results. Although this aesthetic treatment will immediately kill off fat cells in the first 12 to 24 hours, it will take several days for your body to start getting rid of these destroyed fat cells. The elimination process may take one to three months before you will see significant results. Your final results will develop about three months after your last treatment appointment.

Other FAQs

How Many Treatments Will You Need?

Most people will need a series of one to three treatments to achieve optimal results with this fat reduction technique. The number of treatments required to achieve your desired results will depend on the number of areas you want to treat and your percentage of body fat. People who have significant body fat will usually require at least three treatments, particularly if they are also treating other large areas of the body.

How Long Will Coolsculpting Results Last?

Your results are designed to be long-lasting. The reason for this is that fat cells are not like other cells in the body. Unlike skin cells, blood cells, and hair cells, fat cells are not capable of regeneration.

That said, everybody is born with a predetermined number of fat cells that can grow and shrink to store more fat for energy based on your diet, activity level, and metabolism. This means that when fat cells are destroyed by freezing technology, these fat cells cannot return. Ultimately, this means that if you adopt the right lifestyle practices, you can maintain your goal appearance for a lifetime.

Can You Enhance Your Results?

If you want to get the most out of each of your treatments, you may want to consider things you can do after your appointment to enhance your results. Taking these steps during recovery can help your results develop more quickly. Some things you can do include:

Massage Treatment Area

Lightly massaging the treatment area 12 to 24 hours after the treatment can do a world of good. Although your aesthetic expert may massage your skin after the CoolSculpting session is complete, at-home manual massage can further improve your results so long as you do not generate too much heat on your skin. This is because massaging the treatment area can distribute the cold into deeper fat cells.

Drink Water

Drinking plenty of water after your treatment is key. This is because water can help flush toxins out of your system, including fat cells that are destroyed with this body contouring treatment. Your results will develop more quickly if you can drink at least half of your body weight in ounces of water each day. For a person who weighs 150 pounds, this means drinking at least 75 oz of water a day.

Compression Garments

You may also want to wear compression garments on any area that is treated, particularly the waist and stomach. Compression garments can help your body heal into your desired body shape. With fat reduction treatments, compression garments can ensure that skin is tight and that fat reduction produces a smooth, natural-looking result.

How Can You Maintain Results?

Although fat cells cannot regenerate, any fat cells that remain after you achieve your desired results may be able to respond to lifestyle habits. Because fat cells can expand to store more fat for energy, it’s important to lead a healthy lifestyle so that you can avoid weight gain in the future. Some things you can do to maintain your results include:

Maintain Goal Body Weight

Your goal body weight can be determined by several measurements, including BMI and waist-to-hip ratio. You should ask your doctor what healthy body weight is for your age, height, and gender. When you are maintaining a healthy body weight, you should aim to be within five to 10 pounds of this weight at all times.

For women, rest assured that it’s normal for your body weight to fluctuate throughout the month. This is because your body weight reflects your natural response to hormones and water retention as you go through all stages of the menstrual cycle. Usually, you will lose any water weight a few days after your menstrual cycle ends.

Exercise Regularly

Regular exercise is also a key to maintaining healthy body weight. You should aim to have a well-rounded exercise routine, which includes resistance training and cardiovascular activity. If you’re still losing weight, alternating between high-intensity and moderate-intensity exercise can help you burn fat more quickly.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Having a healthy, balanced diet is also essential. Your diet should consist primarily of fiber, protein, and dairy, as these are the building blocks for the proteins and amino acids your body relies on to maintain your health. Limiting sugar, salt, and refined consumption is ultimately best for your health.

Freeze Away Unwanted Fat

If you’re ready to get the body of your dreams and you’re tired of struggling at the gym, it may be time to use body contouring treatments such as CoolSculpting to reach your goals. Take advantage of the specials at Finesse Cosmetic Laser and Lipo in Waltham, MA when you schedule your initial appointment.

How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Take?

Laser Hair Removal

If you’ve gotten tired of putting yourself through the constant cycle of waxing and shaving, you’re not alone. Laser hair removal can offer a lasting solution that leaves you with smooth, clear skin. It’s common to have questions about this process, and that’s why our team at Finesse Cosmetic Surgery in Waltham, MA, is here to provide some information about our hair removal services.

How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Take?

Appointment Times Vary

If you’re looking to treat a small area like the upper lip or chin, laser hair removal can get the job done in as little as five minutes. Larger sections of the body will take more time, so if you want to have your legs or back treated, you can expect each session to last for around 45 minutes.

We’d be happy to give you an appointment time estimate once we know the area we’re going to treat for you. Many patients take the opportunity to unwind and enjoy some “me time” during their appointment. You could consider bringing your favorite book along, or popping in your earbuds and listening to a podcast and some music.

No Downtime

You don’t have to worry about taking extra time to recover after this treatment. You’ll be able to carry on with the rest of your day once your treatment is complete. Life is busy for everyone. Many patients appreciate being able to come in for a brief appointment without worrying about losing their whole day. It can also make scheduling appointments much less stressful.

Rapid Results

How quickly you’ll see results can vary slightly per patient, but most people can expect to see their treated hair beginning to fall out within a week or two of their first treatment.

Your Series

Hair grows in cycles, and the human body has more hair follicles than you may think. To give you thorough, lasting results, we recommend a treatment series. Each treatment will be spaced between four to eight weeks apart, depending on your hair growth cycle and availability.

Many patients find that between five to nine sessions are sufficient to give them the results they’re looking for. That’s not a bad trade-off for getting to enjoy permanent improvements!

What Benefits Can I Expect?

Expect Safety

This is often considered a “lunchtime” treatment due to its safety and ease. Many areas only take about 30 minutes to treat. If desired, a patient could even return to work after their treatment. The way the laser works is by targeting your hair follicles, and it’s able to do that without damaging the epidermis.

It’s considered a very safe treatment, but we understand the importance of knowing as much as possible about your treatment before you receive it. That’s why we will go over what you can expect from the process in person with you. We are also happy to talk you through any concerns you have, since we want you to feel comfortable and confident about your options.

Save Time

Shaving can take a lot of time out of each day. When you’re busy and exhausted, you may be faced with the choice of either skipping your shave and dealing with stubble or having to shave no matter how tired you are. Even waxing, while the results last longer than shaving, either requires careful preparation at home or scheduling regular appointments.

Laser removal gives patients the freedom of knowing that no matter how crazy and busy life gets, their unwanted hair is already taken care of. It’s important to remember that while you may have some occasional hair growth after treatment, the hair should be much thinner and very slow growing. So even if you have to shave now and then, it should be a very quick, easy, and infrequent process.

No Ingrown Hairs

If you’re lucky, shaving can give you good results for a day or two before stubble comes back. However, many people suffer from regular ingrown hairs or other irritations. The last thing you want after shaving is to deal with red bumps instead of hair.

With laser removal, you can get rid of your hair without having to worry about ingrown hairs being left behind. That’s because this treatment gets rid of hair at the roots. In fact, laser removal can be used to help you treat ingrown hairs if you’re already dealing with them.

Be Spontaneous

If you’re invited to a last-minute beach trip or social gathering, having your hair treated can give you more freedom to get up and go rather than having to set time aside to shave beforehand. It can already be hard to find time to spend with friends and relax. Why not free up a bit of time and effort so you can be ready to go when the opportunities come along?

FAQ About Laser Hair Removal

1. How Does This Work?

The most important thing will be making sure this treatment is a good fit for you. Once you’re done with your consultation, if we believe this treatment is going to be a good fit, we can help you set up your treatment plan. To give you the best possible results, we can customize your series based on your hair type, your cosmetic goals, and the area you’re treating.

Our lasers will deliver energy to your hair follicles. The follicles will absorb this energy, which will damage their ability to produce hair. Repeated treatments will help thoroughly disable the follicles and make sure we cover the entire area as well as possible.

2. Can I Wax Beforehand?

While you can shave before your treatment, you shouldn’t wax, tweeze, or bleach beforehand. Anything that pulls out or removes the root of your hair should be avoided for at least two weeks before your laser treatment since the lasers will need to treat the roots of your hair in order to be effective.

3. Why Should I Trust Your Team?

We know how difficult it can be to find the right laser removal method. In order to help as many patients as possible, we offer cutting-edge laser technology that is able to work for a wide range of skin and hair types.

We’re proud to offer laser treatments that are considered safe, effective, and have a wide range at the same time. It’s important to find the right fit for each patient, as using the wrong laser can be ineffective or even harmful. We have the skill and experience to team up with you and pick the right laser for your needs.

4. What Can I Have Treated?

Arms

Our lasers are very versatile; if there’s an area you’d like to treat and it isn’t listed here, feel free to ask us about it.

To start, the arms and underarms are popular treatment areas, as many people prefer not to have hair under their arms. Treating this area could even help reduce body odor. The arms themselves can also be treated.

Legs

Legs can be a pain to shave, especially when you’re pressed for time. Trying to shave in a hurry can lead to accidental cuts or whole patches of missed hair. Waxing in a rush can be equally catastrophic, since, if you’re not careful, you could end up burning your skin.

Treating the legs can give you a much-deserved break. Many patients have been shaving their legs every day for many years and are just tired of it. After laser removal, you won’t have to constantly take time out of your day to shave your legs.

Bikini Line

Many patients find that the bikini area is especially sensitive. Waxing may be too painful, and shaving may leave the skin of this area looking and feeling irritated. Laser removal can be a helpful way to keep this area clear and ready for the beach.

Back or Chest

Laser hair removal can be a helpful tool for patients of any gender since anyone can have unwanted hair. Unwanted back and chest hair can be particularly challenging to remove on your own.

Besides laser removal, having it waxed regularly may be the only reasonable way to keep these areas clear. That cost can start adding up over time, and the discomfort is off-putting for many patients. This treatment can help thin out your back and chest hair, so you don’t have to be constantly setting up appointments to have it waxed off.

Want More Laser Hair Removal Information?

We’d be happy to talk through your skin goals and help you set up the right treatment plan. A consultation is the best way to achieve this. Meeting in person will help us evaluate your skin, and give you time to ask us any remaining questions you have. How Long Does Rhinoplasty Last?

Rhinoplasty

Your nose is one of the first features that people notice about you. If it is crooked or disproportionately large, you may feel self-conscious. At Finesse Cosmetic Laser and Lipo in Waltham, MA, we strongly believe everyone deserves to feel self-confident. That’s why we proudly offer rhinoplasty, one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world.

Known colloquially as a nose job, this procedure can be used to treat a number of cosmetic concerns, including asymmetry, bumps on the bridge of the nose, and upturned, large, or wide nostrils. Furthermore, this procedure can be used to correct a deviated septum and improve breathing. To help you determine whether this popular, effective procedure is right for you, today, we’re taking a closer look at how long the results last and how long it takes.

How Long Does Rhinoplasty Last?

Rhinoplasty results are considered permanent. However, if you had a nose job in the past and are displeased with the results, they can be corrected with a follow-up procedure performed by a better surgeon. Furthermore, you should understand that exceptional circumstances may occur, and you may need a touch-up procedure.

For example, some people get a nose job to correct the functionality of the nose; treating a deviated septum to improve breathing. If you get a nose job, and then your nose is broken after the procedure, you may need another nose job. Finally, you should understand that you may see a slight change in the appearance of your nose due to the aging process causing mild skin sagging or folds around your nose.

How Long Will My Procedure Take?

Many factors affect how long this procedure takes for each individual, but you can generally expect your operation to take between 1.5 and three hours. If you have severe concerns, especially if you are worried about both structural and cosmetic concerns, you will probably need an open nose job. Your operation may take around three hours.

On the other hand, if your concerns are mild or moderate, you may only need a closed rhinoplasty that takes roughly 90 minutes. We will give you a better idea of how long your procedure will take once we have discussed your goals and evaluated the severity of your concerns.

How Long Will My Recovery Take?

Full rhinoplasty recovery can take up to 13 months, especially if the cartilage is harvested from another region of your body and used to fix depressions in the bridge of your nose. However, most of your recovery will be complete in just six to eight weeks, and you won’t even need to take that much time off from work. Depending on the scope of your procedure and your post-op decisions, you may need to take a week or two off from work.

During your initial consultation, we will give you a complete list of recovery rules. If there are any rules you’re not sure you can follow, you need to let us know as soon as possible. Every rule is important for the efficiency of your recovery process. Other rules, such as not wearing glasses, are vital for your results, too.

Why Can’t I Wear Glasses During My Recovery?

You should not wear glasses early in your recovery because if too much pressure is placed on the bridge of your nose, your final results can be affected negatively. It may be okay to wear glasses for the first seven days of your recovery because a protective splint will be placed on top of your nose. However, after that week, you should do your best to not wear glasses. If you can’t wear contacts, wear your glasses as little as possible and try to get a lighter frame.

Also, it is vital that you sleep on your back with your head elevated during your recovery. It is important to sleep on your back for the same reason that it is vital to wear your glasses as little as possible; if you sleep on your stomach or side, too much pressure may be exerted on your nose, and your results can be affected. To heal as quickly as possible, spend as much time as you can in the deepest phase of the sleep cycle.

What Else Can I Do To Speed Up My Recovery?

Besides spending as much time as you can in the deepest phase of the sleep cycle, you can speed up your recovery by walking regularly. The reason it is so important to walk regularly is that walking supports your cardiovascular system. The stronger your circulatory system is, the more efficiently growth factors, nutrients, and oxygen can be delivered to your skin. The delivery of these nutrients and growth factors will help your skin heal itself from the incisions.

Another thing you can do to speed up your recovery is to eat nutritiously and stay hydrated throughout the process. Besides growth factors, oxygen, and nutrients, your skin needs plenty of water to be able to heal itself. Make sure you drink enough water and other hydrating fluids that your urine is clear. If you struggle to drink enough throughout the day, do your best to eat more foods with a high water content.

What Are Some Other Post-Op Restrictions I Should Be Aware of?

Another important restriction you should keep in mind is that you will not be able to blow your nose or use medicated nasal sprays early in your recovery. If you feel like your nasal passages are itchy, you will need to wait out the feeling or use a saline nasal spray to abate it. Also, it is important that you avoid excessive sweating. To reiterate, vigorous exercise must be avoided for six to eight weeks post-op. You should also mitigate the risk of sweating by:

  • Taking tepid showers or baths
  • Avoiding dry saunas
  • Avoiding steam rooms

Furthermore, you should be aware that it is important to not smoke or drink alcohol for at least a couple of weeks post-op. These substances affect your blood pressure and will slow the recovery process. If you can’t imagine going several weeks without smoking, ask your PCP for a referral to a specialist that can help you quit.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Procedure?

To find out whether you are a good candidate for a nose job, you need to come in for an initial consultation. If you are concerned about the size, shape, or structure of your nose, there is a good chance you will qualify. However, the only way to find out for sure whether this procedure will be safe and effective for you is to attend an initial evaluation.

If you’re in pretty good health, this procedure will probably be safe for you. However, if you have certain heart or lung conditions, you may not be a good fit for this operation. This is particularly true if you need cartilage harvested from your ear or rib to augment your nose. The greater the scope of your procedure, the more ideal it is to receive general anesthesia, but it is vital that your heart and lungs are healthy to get general anesthesia safely.

How Will I Need To Prepare for My Procedure?

It is extremely important that your blood pressure isn’t too high when you come in for your procedure. Therefore, you should avoid consuming alcohol and tobacco products before your operation. Also, it is important that you do not consume so much caffeine or sodium that your blood pressure is too high when you come in for your nose job.

Furthermore, it is very important that you do not take any pharmaceuticals that will or may thin your blood. For example, you will not be able to take NSAIDs, fish oil supplements, or vitamin E supplements. Also, you need to make sure that you have a ride home from your operation. Regardless of whether you receive general anesthesia or a sedative that is separate from your anesthesia, you won’t be able to drive home.

You can feel pretty confident that your rhinoplasty results will last a lifetime. However, the results can be altered by trauma.
